Dwarf Hamster Ball
Running is a big part of a dwarf hamster’s life. A dwarf hamster needs to run just like a clown needs to juggle (yea, bad analogy…). It’s a part of him and without it his life just wouldn’t be as fun. Not only that, but running also keeps a dwarf hamster healthy and hamsters that don’t get to run very much are more prone to getting sick.
Of course, there’s the running wheel, but the running wheel alone isn’t enough. Sure your dwarf hamster will get plenty of running in from the wheel, but he needs to get out of the cage as well. In addition to the wheel, you need to get a dwarf hamster ball.
What exactly is a dwarf hamster ball? This is a plastic ball that you put your dwarf hamster inside of (yes, inside!) and while he’s in the ball he’ll be able to run around outside of his cage and you won’t have to worry about him getting lost. He’ll be safe inside of the transparent plastic ball and get to run around the house. Now you can’t just use any old ball though, you need to get one from a pet store. First of all, these balls have ventilation and will also have a lid that you can open to place your hamster in. They are specifically designed and manufactured for hamsters to play in so you know your hamster will be safe.
When buying a dwarf hamster ball, an important thing you should be aware of is getting one with the right fight. Hamster balls are available in all shapes and sizes, but what you want is a dwarf hamster ball, that is, you want a hamster ball that is small than average, but the perfect size for a dwarf hamster. By getting a ball that’s too big, it will be harder for him to run around in so you want a ball that’s just right for a dwarf.
So now you’ve got your ball and you’re ready to give your hamster some enjoyable running time outside of the cage. Most likely you’ll be letting your hamster run in the ball at night because that is when he’s awake. Don’t wake your poor hamster from his sleep just so you can watch him run in the ball, his sleep is important. Wait until you see he’s awake and active before you put him in the ball. Also, you will want to supervise your hamster and make sure nothing happens while he’s playing. This is in case he escapes from the ball or the ball rolls down the stairs. Watching your hamster play shouldn’t be too much trouble though, in fact, it will probably be a lot of fun.
If you really enjoy watching your hamster play in his dwarf hamster ball, you can take things to the next level by getting a track. Yes, there are tracks available for hamster balls. These are like the tracks for toy race cars where the car can only roll on the path of the track except for hamster balls! Some owners even like to race their hamsters on these tracks.
A dwarf hamster ball is very important to give your dwarf hamster the play he needs. Being cooped up in the house is a pain and he needs to get out once in a while. This is not only for his state of mind, but also his physical health as well. To learn more about dwarf hamster care, sign up for my free dwarf hamster care mini-course below!
