Dwarf Hamster Supplies

There are many different dwarf hamster supplies you need to have in order to give your pet a proper lifestyle.  You can’t just adopt him, place him in the corner of the room, and sprinkle Cheerios on the floor every once in a while!  Dwarf hamsters have standards, and not only do they need home and feeding supplies, they also need exercise equipment and toys as well (yes, “need”).  But don’t be fooled, all this isn’t ONLY about the dwarf hamster, some of the supplies will help you as well in making it easier for you to take care of the little guy.  Dwarf hamster supplies can be broken up into four main categories, housing, feeding, exercise, and toys.

Housing
First you will definitely need a place for your dwarf hamster to live.  You have a few options for this including a cage, an aquarium tank, or a plastic habitat.  The most important aspect about the home (in terms of how comfortable it will be for your dwarf hamster) is space.  Sure he’s smaller than the average hamster, being a dwarf and all, but don’t think that just because he’s small he doesn’t need space.  The cage is where he’s going to be spending most of his time and he really needs the room to just be comfortable, so if you can, give the little guy that extra room to breathe.  In addition to the actual home, you need to have bedding (these are wooden chips covering the bottom of the cage to give it a nice natural flooring that hamsters love).  Also you may want to give your dwarf hamster a small room where he can build his nest.  Basically a small box or container where he can hide and make his bed.

Feeding
You’ll also want to get supplies that will help your hamster eat.  And not just eat, but keep things clean and (for your sake, trust me, your hamster doesn’t mind a mess) not have food strewn all over the floor and bedding.  That’s right, a bowl is a good idea so you’re not just putting food onto the ground and a water bottle or bowl is also a must as you can’t just be splashing water into his cage!

Exercise Equipment
Now you may be skeptical, but this really is a need as the one thing dwarf hamsters love doing is run, and boy do these guys love to run!  A dwarf hamster wheel is not only important to keep him healthy physically, but he can even get depressed and sad if he can’t run.  If you want to take it a step further and really give your dwarf hamster a good life, get him a few tunnels to crawl through and maybe even more rooms to his cage.

Toys
Finally on the list of dwarf hamster supplies you’ve got your toys.  The one toy that’s necessary is a chew toy.  Your dwarf hamster needs this to keep his teeth from growing too long.  That’s because dwarf hamster teeth aren’t like ours, they will keep growing longer and longer and longer if they don’t have something to chew on and file them down a bit.  Without a chew toy, you’re dwarf hamster will have to resort to chewing on the bars of his cage (and how would that reflect on you as a parent)!  There are also other great toys you may want to get your dwarf hamster but this article is already getting a bit long so we’ll save that for another day
